Donyale Kadel grew up in New York, City by her American father, Andrew Kadel and her Brazilian mother, Aurela. Being the oldest of her two sisters, Penelope and Marisa, Donyale grew up watching the likes of Gelsey Kirkland and Mikhail Baryshnikov, inspiring her to become a professional ballerina/dancer. Donyale joined the New York City Ballet in 1994 at the age of fifteen after being invited specifically and was promoted to Soloist in 1995. In 1997, she joined the American Ballet Theatre. She was practicing when she received the phone call from the company asking if she would like to dance there and had accepted. She gained fame for dancing the role of "Clara" in the 1998's version of The Nutcracker.
While dancing for ABT, Donyale began a struggle with eating disorders and drug addiction. After seeking help and confessing her problems to a fellow dancer, she quickly gained professional help and was able to fight through her problems. In 1999, she was offered to be a dancer in the big screen teen flick She's All That and also to appear in the 2001 musical, Chicago as Hunyak. Donyale then gained interest in choreography in films and had her agent fight for her to choreograph the 2002 big screen adaption of A Chorus Line which she was nominated for her work for that. Casting Directors were drawn into wanting her as roles in movies, which she also got to work out in 2004's The Rocky Horror Picture Show as playing a role and also helping out with some of the choreography too. Since then, Donyale has been making movie appearances and choreography for them. In 2006, she became a dancer on the hit reality show Dancing With the Stars.
